Week 3 Betting Preview

The college football season is probably the best time of the year. Some may argue that CFB fails to compare to the NFL, but in terms of betting on games, CFB is easy money.

The college football season is probably the best time of the year. Some may argue that CFB fails to compare to the NFL, but in terms of betting on games, CFB is easy money. With that said, here are my 5 bets to place this weekend if you want to make some money. I use MyBookie.ag, so those are the lines I will use.

Last week, TLS went 3-2. Not terrible, but if you bet a unit like we did, you were up .73 units. As it happened last week, lines could change. I will update if lines move more than 1 point.

1. Illinois at University of South Florida, Pick: Illinois +17

As I wrote yesterday, South Florida loves to run the ball. In fact, they run the ball 70% of the time. The run defense is one of the few things Illinois is good at this year and should be able to keep QB Quinten Flowers in check. If Illinois can play well and score early, Illinois should win. If you really want to make some money, take Illinois +590 ML.

2. Purdue at Missouri, Pick: Purdue +7.5

Out of nowhere, the 2017 Purdue offense has been very effective. The Boilermakers almost beat Louisville and had an offensive field day against Ohio. Purdue should be able to attack the Mizzou defense at will since the Tigers just changed their defensive coordinator after Week 2. Like Purdue, Mizzou also has a potent offense that should be able to move the ball against a defense that lacks intensity. This game will be a shootout and be decided by a touchdown or less. Purdue will cover the spread.

3. Tennessee at Florida, Pick: Under 49.5

Florida still has a quarterback controversy and a lot of their players are still suspended. As we saw against Michigan, Florida’s offense was anything but effective. Tennessee will try to move the ball as they did against Georgia Tech and Indiana State, but they will be stopped by Florida’s stellar defense. This will be a low scoring game and neither team will be able to move the ball. Won’t be the most exciting game to watch, but you can safely bet the under.

4. Texas at USC, Pick: Over: 67.5

If there is one thing, these two teams love to score. After losing to Maryland 51-41, Texas knocked off San Jose State 56-0. USC beat Western Michigan 49-31 and rolled past Stanford 42-24. Both teams have averaged over 500 yards of offense and both teams can move the ball through the air and on the ground. This game is going to be a shoot out. Lock of the week with the over.

5. Mississippi at California, Pick: Cal +3.5

Anything can happen in Pac 12 after dark. This is a late game for the Rebels with kickoff at 10:30 PM ET on Saturday. Both defenses have given up a lot of yards and big runs. Cal gave up 571 yards to FCS Weber State and Ole Miss survived a first half scare against UT – Martin. Much like USC/Texas, this game will be hectic. But at home, Cal will survive by creating turnovers and overcome the lethal passing attack of Mississippi QB Shae Patterson.

Other great games:

  • Ohio State/Army: Over 53
  • LSU/Mississippi State: Under 53
  • Baylor/Duke: -14.5 Duke
  • UCLA/Memphis: -3.5 UCLA
  • Kentucky/South Carolina: USC -6.5
