Hammer the Over On The First MACtion Matchup this Weekend

The college football season is probably the best time of the year. Some may argue that CFB fails to compare to the NFL, but in terms of betting on games, CFB is easy money.

The college football season is probably the best time of the year. Some may argue that CFB fails to compare to the NFL, but in terms of betting on games, CFB is easy money. With that said, here are my 5 bets to place this weekend if you want to make some money. I use MyBookie.ag, so those are the lines I will use.

Last week, TLS went 3-2. Not terrible, but if you bet a unit like we did, you were up .73 units. As it happened last week, lines could change. I will update if lines move more than 1 point. TLS Season Record: 9-6

1. #4 Penn State @ Iowa, Pick: Iowa +12.5

Read yesterday’s post on my thoughts on the game here. Penn State is very good, but Iowa should be able to keep it a one possession game at home.

2. #16 TCU @ #6 Oklahoma State, Pick: TCU+13

Both these teams can score. Both these teams can play defense. Both these teams are ranked. OkSU QB Mason Rudolph needs to make a statement for his Heisman campaign and TCU needs to finally win a Big 12 game in the state of Oklahoma. This will be a tightly contested game between the two teams in Stillwater.

3. UTSA @ Texas State, Pick: UTSA -13.5

UTSA can score. They beat Baylor at home and dropped 51 on Southern. Better yet the UTSA and the Texas State I-35 rivalry is booming. These are very small schools, much like the generic version of UT and A&M. UTSA has been very impressive this year. Texas State has looked the exact opposite. The game should be close, but UTSA will pull ahead of the Bobcats and win by more than 2 scores.

4. Miami (OH) @ Central Michigan, Pick: Over 52.5

This is easy. Lock of the week. MAC teams are terrible at protecting the pass. Both these teams have earned 67% of their yards through the air. Both these teams have allowed 60% of their yards through the air. Expect broken defenses, long passes, nobody in the the crowd and a high scoring game. Hammer the over, 53 is too low for a MAC conference game.

Note: I drafted this column Wednesday. The public has been moving the line to the under. The line has dropped and should continue to drop. Lock it in.

5. UCLA @ Stanford, Pick: UCLA +7.5

Stanford lost last week to San Diego State. The Cardinal are going to try and get back into it at home against UCLA. But UCLA and Josh Rosen will not go down without a fight. Rosen has led all QB’s by about a mile. He has almost 1300 yards and 13 TD’s in 3 games. There is no way that Stanford’s defense can stop UCLA’s potent offense. Rosen and the Bruins will keep it close (due to their lack of defense), and win in a nail biting matchup of PAC-12 after dark.

Bonus Mortal Lock: #15 Auburn @ Missouri, Pick: Auburn -18

Yes this is an SEC matchup, but Mizzou is horrible this year. They scored 3 points total against Purdue.  Gus Malzahn and his Tigers should be able to easily handle Mizzou. After scoring 72 points in the season opener, Missouri has been outscored 66-16 and failed to convert against P5 team. Auburn’s offense will stop shooting itself in the foot and score big in Columbia.

Other good games:

  • Alabama @ Vanderbilt: Under 43
  • West Virginia @ Kansas: WVU -21.5
  • Central Florida @ Maryland: Maryland -4
  • San Diego State @ Air Force: SDSU -3.5
  • Notre Dame @ Michigan State: Notre Dame -3
